Darren Pang, one of the premier announcers in hockey, is in his first season with FOX Sports Midwest as the analyst on St. Louis Blues telecasts.  Pang, 45, provides commentary for national NHL telecasts on NBC and has served as a studio analyst for Canada’s TSN network.  He came to FOX Sports Midwest after four seasons as the Phoenix Coyotes’ TV analyst.  Prior to the Coyotes, Pang spent 12 years covering hockey for ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC.  He has also provided radio color analysis for the NHL Network during the playoffs.  In addition, Pang worked as an ice level reporter for the men’s hockey coverage in Nagano, Japan during the 1998 Winter Olympics on CBS and for NBC’s coverage of the 2002 Winter Games and will work as a studio analyst at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver with TSN/CTV.

Pang played three NHL seasons, all with the Blackhawks, from 1984-85 to 1988-89. He played in a total of 81 games, compiling a 27-35-7 record and 4.05 GAA. In 1987-88, he was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team and finished third in the race for the Calder Trophy.

BOTH A REF & PLAYER DEAL WITH INTEGRITY ISSUES

INTEGRITY ISSUES FRONT & CENTER!!

A ref and a player…

Alex Burrows embellishes a hit in game against Nashville. The referee, Stephane Auger puts up his arm and calls a penalty on the Nashville player.

After further review following the game by the ref, he views it as just that, an embellishment that obviously embarrassed the ref.

Now moving ahead to further action…

In Vancouver against the Predator’s, Burrows reportedly ( by Burrows) gets an earful from Auger prior to puck drop. He is told that he will “get him back” for the previous game.

Oh boy. When you’re out really late at night..and into the wee hours of the morning, ..and you go outside…and the birds are chirping…nothing but bad happens. You know what I mean?

The Winter Classic

THE WINTER CLASSIC

-Darren Pang

It is a regular New Years Day tradition in the NHL, beginning at 1 pm EST.

It is the Bridgestone Winter Classic, and for the 3rd year in a row in the USA, it will be played outdoors in a historic building, this year it is at Fenway Park, home of the Red Sox.

It will be a pleasure to be there in the Winter Classic, working the sidelines, bundled up like you read about, for NBC Sports.

The Push Hit MUST GO!

THE PUSH HIT MUST GO

Several years ago while I was at ESPN, I had a pretty good forum to share thoughts and ideas about what I liked and what I  despised about what was going on in the NHL.
We had games on ESPN, ESPN2, while NHL2Night would let us explore any ideas we had about the game. We could also let loose on some columns on ESPN.COM.

I. Have always enjoyed  hammering around ways to make the game better, as we see as many games as the next guy, and end up seeing as many great plays and players in the game as we do see some of the  negative things that take place.

All this brings me back to the past, and maybe if I would have stayed the course on the opinions I once felt so strongly about, we would have had a change in at least one rule, and that is something I phrased quite simply, "The Push".
Seems simple enough, doesn't it?
